Study Plans – Civil Engineering

The study plan includes a list of learning activities that the student must attend and pass in order to be admitted to the final degree examination.

The learning activities included in the study plan are as follows:

  • compulsory courses
  • orientation/track courses
  • free-choice courses
  • eligibility/pass–fail assessments
  • internship / work placement
  • final degree thesis/examination

Free-choice courses must be included in the study plan when enrolling in the third year of the programme.

Specifically, the Degree Programme requires:

  • a total of 12 ECTS credits of free-choice courses (i.e., two 6-ECTS courses or one 12-ECTS course) – to be selected via the online procedure in your personal area, except in exceptional cases*;
  • the selection of “FREE-CHOICE” courses may be made, subject to approval by the Programme Board, from among all courses offered within the student’s Department and/or University, provided they do not duplicate learning activities already included in the study plan. As a rule, courses belonging to programmes at a higher or lower level are not admissible.

The Programme Board has, in advance, identified a pool of courses for each cohort year classified as “automatically approved”, for which individual authorisation is not required.

These courses are visible and can be selected independently in your personal area through the online procedure. Once selected, they are automatically included in the study plan.

*For all other courses not included in the selected pool, and therefore not visible in your personal area, prior approval by the relevant Programme Board is required, which assesses the suitability of the proposed study plan.

In this case, the procedure is paper-based and requires completion of the PPS form, to be sent by email to the Department’s Teaching Administrative Support Office at ufficio.protocollo@unisannio.it.

These courses will appear in the student record book once the relevant Programme Board has approved them.

Courses that are not included in your study plan, or that have not been approved, cannot be booked and therefore cannot be taken. For this reason, it is advisable to make your choices in good time, preferably before the courses are delivered.

COURSE SELECTION WINDOWS

There are two periods during which selections can be made:

  • first window: from 1 September 2025 to 15 November 2025;
  • second window: from 1 February 2026 to 15 April 2026.

Students may change their selection (of free-choice courses) within the same academic year, but only during the above windows and using the same procedures described previously.

To complete the study plan, it is also possible to have credits recognised that were earned in previous university studies.

Exams taken as part of Erasmus study plans and recognised by the competent Programme Board automatically update the study plan.

CHANGES TO THE STANDARD STUDY PLAN

To submit an individual study plan different from the standard one, students must contact the Student Registry Office help desks. For further information, please consult the dedicated page on the University website.

The plan prepared by the student will be submitted for approval to the Programme Board, which will decide taking into account the student’s cultural/academic training needs and professional preparation. The Programme Board issues its decision within 60 days from submission of the form. The applicant will be informed of the decision.

Students whose proposed change to the study plan is not approved will be notified of any amendments made by the competent academic structures. Please note that, if the student does not intend to accept the study plan as amended, they must send written notice by registered mail to the Student Registry Office within 15 days from the date of receipt of the plan, or alternatively appear in person at the Student Registry Office help desks to add a statement of non-acceptance to the plan. In this case, the student:

  • must follow the standard study plan if enrolled in the first year of the programme;

  • must follow the last approved study plan if enrolled in years subsequent to the first or if they are beyond the standard duration of the programme.

Exams taken by the student that are not included in their study plan are automatically cancelled by the Student Registry Office.
