Maria Moreno

Author of over 80 scientific publications on subjects of Physiology, Metabolism and Endocrinology. Research activities are mainly  in the field of regulation of energy metabolism at the cellular / molecular level with particular regard to the identification and characterization of mitochondrial functions in both physiological and pathophysiological conditions and also through functional proteomics approaches. The scientific skills of Professor Moreno mainly concern the effect of thyroid hormones on energy metabolism and their mechanism of action.

• Metabolic homeostasis: cellular-molecular mechanisms and pathophysiological aspects related to lipid metabolism
• Mechanisms and molecular pathways of the hypocholesterolemic effect of thyroid hormones through the reduction of apo-B lipoproteins
• Molecular and bioenergetic processes associated with aging in rat muscle
• Effect of aging and senescence on systemic and peripheral homeostasis of thyroid hormone and on deiodinase activity
• Uncoupling proteins and calorigenic effect of thyroid hormones

She is Associate Editor of the Frontiers in Thyroid Endocrinology journal, the Frontiers in Physiology journal and the Immunology, Endocrine & Metabolic Agents in Medicinal Chemistry journal.

She is a member of the Italian Society of Physiology (SIF) and of the European Thyroid Association (ETA).
