Territorio e public engagement
The University of Sannio is a key driver of sustained social, economic, and cultural development in the Sannio region and the inner areas of Campania.
Since its establishment, the University has carefully cultivated its relationship with the local community, choosing to locate its facilities (Rectorate, Administrative Office, Department Offices, Libraries, Teaching Rooms, Language Centre, Computer Lab) in a way that strongly integrates with the urban fabric. This approach aims to create a University–City system that embodies the best of Italian university tradition and expresses a cultural commitment to enhancing the existing urban, architectural, and social potential of the area.
Particular attention is given to local stakeholders: businesses, public entities, private organizations, and non-profits are the University’s natural interlocutors, contributing to bridging theoretical knowledge and applied expertise.
The University of Sannio thus identifies with and integrates into its territory, its stakeholders, and its partners, consistently pursuing its mission to “Contribute to the development of the knowledge society through research, high-quality teaching, and excellence in training.”
Driven by the desire to strengthen interaction between academic institutions, the business world, and social needs, the University established the Work Contract Certification Committee by a resolution from the Director of the DEMM Department on November 6, 2018.
The Committee was registered in the Ministry of Labour’s Register of University Certification Committees by Ministerial Decree No. 9 on February 25, 2019, and has already begun operations. Its registration not only represents an important recognition for the University but also expands its range of activities, reinforcing its presence in the region. Through this certification committee, the University aims to offer significant certification services nationwide and enhance its third mission activities, including generating additional financial resources.
Third-Party Activities
The University establishes collaborative relationships with local businesses, entities, and organizations for so-called “third-party” activities. This type of activity is strongly influenced by the local industrial fabric, which is relatively weak economically. Nevertheless, the University manages to secure a significant portion of its budget from these activities. For example, in 2017, about 20% of the funds attracted by the University came from agreements and third-party contracts with private entities. Specifically, the DING’s third-party activities generated approximately €451,321 in 2017.
The DEMM has initiated several third-party projects in the academic years 2015–2016 and 2016–2017, totaling about €338,134 in contributions. These projects were primarily funded through public calls from the Campania Region (using regional EU funds) and also from public and private organizations (e.g., TAR Lazio, Città della Scienza, Cesvob Benevento).
The DST is also involved in third-party activities with various external entities. In the 2015–2017 period, there were 44 agreements between the DST and external organizations. These organizations include national and international universities, national research institutions (including various CNR institutes), international consortia, hospitals and other healthcare entities, schools, public entities such as municipalities and provinces, cooperatives, and private and public-private companies.
The University maintains strong ties with its alumni. Since 2017, the Alumni Unisannio Association has been active. Founded by former students of the University of Sannio, many of whom are established professionals with significant experience both in Italy and abroad, the association aims to promote and enhance the connection between graduates and the local and national economic fabric. Alumni serves as a hub for knowledge, opportunities, and projects, acting as a bridge between the academic world, young graduates from Sannio, and the local and national production system, through continuous exchange of professional and cultural experiences. Its goal is to strengthen and promote the sense of belonging to the University of Sannio and the Benevento region.
