Dual Career Recognition – Unisannio Athlete Status
The University of Sannio promotes a dual career pathway in study and sport, recognising the status of “Unisannio Athlete” for students involved in competitive sport at national and international levels. The programme is designed to support a balance between sporting activity and academic studies, safeguarding the right to education and valuing sporting merit in accordance with the University Regulation.
Who can apply for it
To obtain Unisannio Athlete status, the student must meet all three of the following criteria simultaneously:
Be duly enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme, a master’s course, or a doctoral programme at the University of Sannio.
Be registered with sports clubs affiliated to Federations recognised by the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) or the CIP Italian Paralympic Committee.
Belong to at least one of the following categories:
- Athletes, coaches, or referees participating in Olympic/Paralympic, national, or international competitions.
- Athletes, coaches, or referees registered with Paralympic Sports Federations.
- Athletes selected to represent Italy in official competitions.
- Athletes, coaches, or referees participating in major university competitions (e.g. the Universiade or World University Championships).
Benefits and Services
Possibility of arranging extraordinary exam dates, exemption from compulsory attendance requirements, and assignment of an academic tutor.
Assessment of eligibility for conditional enrolment in degree programmes with limited admission.
10% reduction in annual university tuition fees and possible awards for outstanding sporting achievement.
Possibility of enrolling on a part-time basis, in accordance with the University Regulations.
Recognition of up to a maximum of 6 ECTS credits for competitive sporting activities undertaken, subject to assessment and approval by the Degree Programme Board, in the event of:
- Participation in the National University Championships (FederCUSI);
- Competitive sporting activity in competitions representing CUS Benevento.
How to apply
Note: Applications will be assessed by a specially appointed Technical Committee.
Requirements for maintaining the status
To retain Unisannio Athlete status, it is necessary to:
- Renew the application annually with updated documentation.
- Obtain at least 50% of the ECTS credits required under your annual study plan.
- Be up to date with the payment of university tuition fees.
- Maintain sports membership and active participation in competitions.
Loss of status and penalties;
The status is automatically revoked in the event of:
- Loss of the sporting requirements;
- Failure to comply with academic or administrative obligations.
The Committee may also impose disciplinary sanctions:
- Warning;
- Temporary suspension;
- Exclusion from the programme.
Awards and recognition;
Upon proposal of the Committee, the Board of Directors may award prizes to Unisannio Athletes who distinguish themselves through sporting achievements of national or international significance.
The awards may also include partial or full exemptions from the annual all-inclusive tuition fee (stamp duty and the regional tax remain payable).
