The Sant'Agostino Building of the University of Sannio opens to visitors on Sunday 26 September 2021 for the European Heritage Days 2021.

Admission is free and no reservation is required. From 10 am to 8 pm a guide will accompany you in the discovery of the secrets of the convent building founded in Benevento in the thirteenth century in the Trescene district.

The convent complex was founded in Benevento in the 13th century in the Trescene district close to a stretch of the city walls. It suffered significant damage from the earthquake of 1688. The subsequent reconstruction gave the complex and especially the church an eighteenth-century appearance.

The convent was then closed in 1861, and the church in 1865. From that date the convent complex was used as a barracks for the Royal Carabinieri. In 1920 the new Parish of Sant'Agostino was inaugurated in the adjacent church of the same name. The work following the earthquake gave the complex its current appearance.

The complex retains numerous traces of its important past (relics); the reading of these stratifications provides the knowledge of evolution that has made it as it is today. Today it houses the classroom of the courses of the Engineering Department of the University of Sannio. Given its current destination, the charm of the complex and its historical importance are few known to the public. With this occasion, the residence and its beauties can be visited for a whole day and free of charge for all those who want to immerse themselves in an eighteenth-century atmosphere.
