On Friday 20 June 2025 at 10:00 AM, a scholarly meeting will be held in the Sala dell’Assunta at Palazzo San Domenico, to mark the presentation of the volume "The Person and Their Surroundings: Current Debates and Research Perspectives" (edited by Vincenzo Rapone and Gemma Zontini).

The event is organised in collaboration with the Neapolitan Centre of Psychoanalysis, and will feature the active participation of scholars from the fields of psychoanalysis, philosophy, sociology, and law.

As noted in the book’s back cover, the interdisciplinary dialogue at the heart of this initiative stems from “a shared desire to reconstruct the meaning and scope of personification processes. The person is conceived as both a transcendental and existential entity—a bridge between the universality of the concept and the singularity of the living being. This idea-force, deeply rooted in the value system of Western civilisation, arguably represents one of its most meaningful contributions to a globalised culture that, by striving for ever-wider inclusivity, paradoxically risks diluting its impact.”

The aim of the event is to foster critical reflection and encourage academic, social, and civic engagement in developing pathways that support the human person in their relationships—an essential counterbalance to the rise of individualism and its associated risks of growing vulnerability and inequality.

This initiative is part of the broader commitment of the University of Sannio to promoting individual and collective well-being, with particular attention to the needs of its student community.
