Presentation of Alessandro Campi’s book
Monday, October 20, 2025, at 6:30 PM, in the Hall of the Ancient Theater of Palazzo Paolo V (Corso Garibaldi 145, Benevento), the presentation of Alessandro Campi’s book will take place, A Memorable Execution. Giovanni Gentile. Fascism and the Memory of the Civil War (Le Lettere, 2025).
The event is organized by the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento – Sannio Delegation and is part of the historical outreach activities dedicated to exploring the most complex moments of national history.
The book offers a new interpretation of the "Gentile case," shifting the focus from the events of the 1944 assassination attempt to the reasons behind the philosopher’s support for the Italian Social Republic and the political and symbolic meaning of his death. This analysis provides a portrait of an intellectual torn between Risorgimento ideals, national-liberalism, and the tragedy of the Italian civil war.
Speakers at the event will include the Mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella, the Rector of the University of Sannio Gerardo Canfora, the Director of ISRI – Sannio Delegation Luigi Razzano, journalist and writer Giancristiano Desiderio, and the author Alessandro Campi.
The initiative is held under the patronage of the Province of Benevento, the City of Benevento, the University of Sannio, the Benevento Provincial School Office, the “Nicola Sala” State Conservatory of Music, and the State Archives of Benevento.
