On Thursday 14 October, as part of the RUNIPACE series of seminars, the seminar on "Promoting peace in the world will be held in the presence (Aula SA9, Sant'Agostino Complex, 35 seats) and at a distance on the UniSannio YouTube channel: opportunities and risks of the intensive exploitation of renewable energy sources ". Speaker prof. Maurizio Sasso, professor of industrial technical physics at the Samnite university.

The intervention aims to analyze the lights and shadows of an intensive exploitation of non-fossil sources that could guarantee access to energy, for example electricity, of the multitudes of peoples currently lacking in the poorest countries, increasing their socio-economic level and decreasing the rate of mortality. The availability of energy is a determining element for the social progress of a people and an essential prerequisite for the assurance of some fundamental human rights, such as those to health and education, thus indirectly affecting factors that trigger conflicts.

Furthermore, the lower world consumption of fossil fuels could mitigate a further element that has traditionally "justified" numerous wars, such as the control of the places where oil is extracted and its trade routes. On the other hand, as feared by the representatives of poor countries, also the exploitation of renewables by rich countries, if not accompanied by measures of "energy democracy" and therefore direct repercussions for the peoples of the advantages of exploiting indigenous sources, it could replace a model of oil hegemony that of hoarding by countries rich in renewable "fuels", such as biomass, removing them from their natural use, such as cultivation for food and livestock (feed or food).
